The family of Congress MP Dheeraj Sahu has a lengthy history with the organization.

The Income Tax Department is still conducting raids at the residence of Congress MP Dheeraj Sahu. Over Rs 350 crore worth of cash was recovered during the raids.

Despite the fact that the Congress has distanced itself from party MP Dheeraj Sahu due to his recent financial gain, his family has a lengthy history with the historic party.

According to reports, Dheeraj Sahu’s father, Baldeo, gave the Indian government Rs 47 lakh and 47 kg of gold upon the country’s independence in 1947 to help boost the econonomy.

VERY CLOSE FAMILY LINK WITH CONGRESS
Out of the five brothers Dheeraj Sahu had, four, including him, went into politics. Shiv Prasad Sahu, one of his brothers, was a Lok Sabha MP who twice won the Ranchi seat for the Congress. He passed away in January 2001, aged 67. Nandlal Sahu, another brother, has also died.

Another of Dheeraj’s brothers, Gopal Sahu, ran on a Congress ticket from Hazaribagh in the 2019 elections but lost. Uday Sahu, another brother, is still connected to the Congress party.

Dheeraj Sahu ran unsuccessfully twice for the Jharkhand seat of Chatra. He was chosen in a by-election to the Rajya Sabha in June 2009, and he was chosen again in July 2010.

In May 2018, he was elected to the Rajya Sabha for the third time.

The family wielded significant influence throughout Shiv Prasad Sahu’s rule, and the Congress’s nominees for cabinet positions and parliamentary and legislative elections were chosen based on their suggestions. Alongside him was Indira Gandhi.

The Sahu family has continuously been a major source of financial and political support for the Congress party, especially in Lohardaga, Jharkhand, and the surrounding areas.

Known as the ‘White House of Lohardaga’, the family’s ancestral residence plays a significant part in Congress’s political operations.

Notably, movie stars and cricket players paid visits to the family’s ancestral house, demonstrating the family’s power beyond politics. The majority of Dheeraj Sahu’s family’s businesses are situated in Odisha, and their main line of business is the liquor sector.

SAHU DHEERAJ’S ASSETS
In 2018, Dheeraj Sahu submitted an affidavit with the Election Commission of India, disclosing that his assets exceeded Rs 34 crore, comprising of Rs 20.4 crore in mobile assets and Rs 14.43 crore in immovable assets, including property and agricultural land. In addition, he owns four vehicles: a BMW, a Pagero, a Fortuner, and a Range Rover.

His yearly earnings were about one crore rupees. Furthermore, Dheeraj Sahu had diamond jewelry worth at Rs 26.16 lakh at the time, while his wife had 3.1 kilogram of gold valued at Rs 94.5 lakh.

The statement states that, among other investments, Sahu contributed Rs 2.5 crore to the family-owned business Baldeo Sahu Shiv Prasad Sahu and Rs 2 crore to Baldeo Sahu and Sons.

In addition, he had paid Rs 2.32 crore down payment for a Delhi property.

In 1979, he earned a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) from Ranchi University’s Marwari College. Dheeraj Sahu’s record is clear of any criminal activity.
